Everybody is quite familiar with toothpaste as an acne remedy and my best bet is that apart from using it to clean your teeth, you’ve used it on your pimples too. Honestly, I’ve used it too.
What’s the theory behind it?
Well, toothpaste contains an antibacterial, triclosan. Since acne is caused by a bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes, by applying toothpaste on your acne you will be able to kill this bacteria.
Why this remedy won’t work
Even though toothpaste contains antibacterial fighting components, these components work well when cleaning teeth but causes irritation when used on the skin. Therefore, applying toothpaste on your skin will cause more harm than good to your skin.
The best home remedy alternative to toothpaste for me would be sulfur. Just like toothpaste, this remedy kills bacteria, keeps oil production levels under control and dries out skin blemishes. Sulphur is very powerful and therefore should only be applied directly on the pimples and not the whole face.
