For all its worth, lemon is in some associated with acne treatment.
What’s the theory behind it?
Lemon contain two active ingredients thought to be responsible in acne treatment. The first compound is vitamin c, responsible for acne treatment and the second component, citric acid effective in exfoliating the skin.
Why it won’t work
Just because lemon contains two powerful components doesn’t mean it is able to treat your acne problem. The following are reasons shy this home remedy won’t be effective in treating your acne problem.
- Citric acid is not able to exfoliate the skin as it’s thought to. I get it, citric acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid just like glycolic. However, when it comes to treating your acne skin complication, glycolic acid is able to penetrate through your skin, whereas citric acid can’t thereby making lemon ineffective in treating your acne complication.
- Vitamin C doesn’t treat acne. Different studies indicate that vitamin C is effective in preventing wrinkles, treating sun skin damage and boosting formation of collagen in the body. Despite this strong correlation with different functions within the skin, no single studies has proven the effectiveness of vitamin C in treating acne.
